Agen Allwedd Main Passage trip 27/05/2018

Unless otherwise stated, camera, setups, lighting, edits and gallery effects by Tarquin. Modelling and lighting at various points will be Dave Glover, Andrew Deeley, Matthew Deeley and Thomas Deeley.

  1. The largest part of the Entrance Series, a beautifully keyhole-shaped section shortly before Angel's Roost. The cave's name means Keyhole Cleft, a reference to the shape of its original entrance, and many passages in it have the classic phreatic tube and vadose trench. Incidentally, the name Angel's Roost refers to a person with that name, not the bats which often roost in this area. It should probably be pronounced as the Spanish name Ángel, not the english word angel. Modelling by Matthew, Thomas, Andrew and Dave
  2. Start of Baron's Chamber, the first bit of the enormous Main Passage. The way into here was from the undercut on the left, to the left of the blue sign that asks visitors not to leave litter. (The breakthrough was made in the 1950s, when cave conservation was in its infancy, and the cave is marred with many piles of spent carbide, and has been vandalised on numerous occasions in the past. Access is now more carefully controlled.) Modelling and lighting by Andrew, Matthew, Thomas and Dave
  3. The second, wider portion of Baron's Chamber. Modelling by Andrew, Matthew, Thomas and Dave
  4. A very large section of Main Passage, between Baron's Chamber and the junction of Main Stream Passage. Modelling by Andrew, Matthew, Dave and Thomas, lighting by Tarquin, Andrew, Matthew, Dave and Thomas
  5. After Main Stream Passage leaves, the Main Passage becomes a series of much lower arches. The beautiful cracked mud floor (preserved without footprints behind tapes in a few areas) appears to be as much as 20 metres deep, and if removed would have left a passage as large as before. Modelling and lighting by Andrew, Thomas, Matthew and Dave
  6. The line around the walls appears to be an old ponding line, meaning that the passage would once have been a very long canal, with occasional sumps. Modelling by Matthew, Andrew, Dave and Thomas, lighting by Tarquin, Matthew, Andrew, Dave and Thomas
  7. Main Passage at its largest and most impressive, at the junction with Southern Stream Passage. Modelling by Matthew, Andrew, Thomas and Dave, lighting by Tarquin, Matthew, Andrew, Thomas and Dave
  8. Large selenite crystals, as much as 15 cm (6 inches) long, growing from the mud floor. Lighting by Andrew and Dave
  9. The Music Hall, near the end of the Main Passage. Modelling by Dave, Andrew, Thomas and Matthew, lighting by Tarquin, Dave, Andrew, Thomas and Matthew
  10. The start of the Cliffs Of Dover. Modelling by Dave, lighting by Andrew and Dave.
