Blaen Dyar caves
Photos, edits and gallery effects by Tarquin.
This gallery contains pictures of several caves in Blaen Dyar, a tiny valley sandwiched between Gilwern Hill and Llanelly Hill.
None of them are particularly big or impressive, but the potential for extensions is absolutely huge, since most of them
are fragments of Ogof Draenen.
First is Gilwern Quarry, with Blaen Dyar to the right. At the top of the quarry on the left is a tiny blind rift, above which the road is slowly falling into the quarry.
The main quarry, where there are several cave fragments
The main caves: Wookey's Dig with an unnamed cave fragment above it, and Ogof Rosyn to the right
The heavily choked Ogof Mis Mel, which is almost certainly the end of Ogof Draenen's St. Giles Series reaching the surface
Unnamed hole that is exceptionally tight
A calcited lime kiln just above the main cave quarry
Ogof Helog Glas, another cave fragment that is slowly disintegrating as the cliff breaks
Back by the stream is Clydach South Resurgences No 1, the resurgence for Ogof Draenen's North-flowing streams
On the other bank and a little upstream is Domis Natrix, with its resurgence bricked over
Looking upstream along Blaen Dyar
By the waterfall is a small rift cave that is very tight
Half way up Blaen Dyar is the short Ogof Cwm Dyar, which is fed by some surface sinks on Gilwern Hill
