Northeast Hofuf rocks 1986-1988
A set of impressive rock outcrops, northeast of Hofuf.
The main northeast rock outcrop.
The smaller buttress to one side, with the Hofuf University farm (yes, you read that correctly) in the distance.

Shrubs in the desert near the rocks. The area might not get much rain, but the shrubs are thriving on the conditions.
We want ... a shrubbery.
Small shrub.
Advancing sand dunes. The advance is quick enough that it is covering recent car tracks.
My brother and I, wearing Saudi dress, as we usually did. The white robe is a thawb (ثوب), and the head dress is a ghutra (غطرة), held in place with an agal (عقال), with a scull cap underneath. The usual footwear would be flat leather sandals.
No comment necessary ;)
Nearby, there is another set of rocks, if rock is an appropriate word for these enormous monoliths. These rocks are so large that they have their own cave systems running through them.
Late evening, and the setting sun lights up the monoliths in these stunning shades of red. Humans for scale, climbing into the caves on this rock.
The back of the monolith.
Towering above the desert.
Red rocks in shadow.
Last light.
The dying sun lights up a snake of sand dunes, slithering off into the desert.
