St. Fagans

Welsh culture. Or something.

St. Fagans National Welsh Folk History Museum of Welsh Life. Yes, that name is a mishmash of all the many names it has been known by, but to most people, it is just St. Fagans. So whatever. Anyway, the museum is a collection of buildings taken from various places in Wales, and reconstructed to represent various parts of important Welsh culture through the ages. It's easy enough to walk around and point a camera at everything, but I was feeling in a closeup mood, so this selection of pictures is mostly abstract closeups of whatever I liked at the time.

• Cock pit (the fighting kind).
• Wood beams in the cock pit roof.
• Rope in natural lighting.
• Tannery barrels.
• Bark store.
• Chains.
• Workshop.
• Celtic village.
• Celtic hut.
• The visitor.
• Orange.
• Red.
• Flower structure.
• Widescreen TV.
• Small engines (known as iron horses) on display. These use a flywheel to reduce their fuel use, and only fire the piston when the flywheel speed has dropped below a given threshold.
• When they work, that is.
• Given the way they work, they occasionally make these strange popping sounds or gurgling noises. With a collection of several engines all running together, it produces a very comical effect.
• Farm kitchen.

• Cider mill.
• Cork tree.
