Snowstorm 2009

When Britain disappeared under the worst snowfall in nearly 20 years. Ok, so Cardiff is a microclimate, and doesn't suffer as badly as everywhere else, but it's still worth pictures.

• A break in the snow means it's time to go out with the camera. That was asking for trouble.
• Above the cutting in the Glamorgan Canal nature reserve.
• Reduced visibility as it starts to come down heavily again. Still, at least there was no wind, so it could be enjoyed.
• Snowfall.
• Monument.
• Taking a beating.
• Trip to the beech.
• Paths through the snow.
• Down through the reserve.
• Snow arch.
• Canal.
• Young trees.
• Beech trees on a slope. Looks perfect for sledging, but ends in the canal.
• Snow trees.
• Trunks.
• The cutting.
• A nearby estate. It doesn't take much to cause trouble here. Nobody uses snow tires or chains. We saw one crash, and one runaway ... er ... slidaway car while walking past here. That last one was funny, with the owner chasing it - at least they caught it and managed to push it to a stop before it hit anyone.
• Summit of the Garth Hill/Mountain/Octopus/Pizza.
• View over the Ely valley from Pentyrch.
• Coed y Bedw nature reserve.
