About the author
I have been caving since 1991. I have gained a knowledge of about 100 cave systems, some to a much greater degree
than others. I have been involved in some of the original explorations of some of our local caves. Many of the people I tend to go caving with now call me "walking survey" as I have a memory for cave maps
and descriptions that seem to impress a lot of them. I have tried here to use this ability to provide information to
all the cavers who cannot remember so well. So, on this site is as much useful information as I could gather about caving,
in particular about caves in South Wales as this is my local area.
As well as caving, other skills I have acquired include:
- Cave photography (usually working out the setup and using the flash or modeling so I tend not to get any credits). Included on the main page are some of the pictures I have taken part in taking.
- Cave surveying, both mapping and drawing up. Included on the main page is a computer generated version of a grade 5c survey I have coordinated of Crescent Cave. Full quality versions are available to buy as part of my caving club's journal (see the section on the description of Crescent Cave).
- Description writing. I have written several descriptions of local caves, including the most complete description of Ogof Draenen, and some of the smaller caves in the area. Many of these have been included in guidebook publications.
