Aberdulais Falls waterfall walk

Including the Aberdulais Falls heritage site.

Ability requirements (key)

Directions

From Cardiff, take the M4 to junction 43, and take the A465 to the right towards Merthyr Tydfil. Take the fourth exit (the first is only a services), signposted to Aberdulais Falls. At the roundabout, take the third turnoff onto the A4109. It soon crosses the Dulais river, and the Aberdulais Falls heritage site is immediately after that. Parking is on the roadside or opposite side of the road just afterwards. SS 7723 9944.

Route

The waterfall lies within the heritage site, and a fee is charged for admission. The waterfall can be partially seen early on on the left, and some steps (or a lift for mobility impaired visitors) lead up to an upper platform where there is a view over the top of the waterfall and the weir above it.

No public paths lead from this urban site, so there are very few practical walking routes that can be linked into a visit here. However, if you would like a longer walk, take a copy of the 1:25'000 map, and create your own walk using nearby public rights of way. My suggestion would be the nearby Craig Gwladus. This could be reached by crossing back over the river, and taking the stepped path just past the houses. Cross the housing estate road, pass the next lane, and turn right on the next road. The second road on the left enters the Craig Gwladus forest, where the track to the left climbs up to the upper path. Choose your own route. I have not followed or graded any of these routes.
