From Cardiff, take the A470 to the roundabout at Cemmaes Road. From Cemmaes Road, take the first turnoff (left) at the roundabout, onto the A489 to Machynlleth. Follow it to the A-road junction in Machynlleth centre. From Machynlleth, turn right onto the A487 towards Dolgellau. At Corris, take the first road on the right, towards Aberllefenni. At the other end of Aberllefenni, where the road passes ponds behind stone walls on both sides of the road, park in the wider part of the road on the bend. SH 7707 0998.
The pond on the right has a small dam spillway, which may be of interest, but can be dry in summer (though it is still more impressive than the river's waterfalls). Take the lane heading down the left side of the pond's outflow stream. Just after it turns left, head through some farm gates on the right, and over a footbridge over the Afon Dulas. Turn left and follow a path that climbs up through trees to some fields. At the fields, take the path heading left, and follow the edge of the field, which turns right to head up to a derelict farm.
At the farm, the route enters the Dyfi Forest. Turn left and follow the path above the river. Continue until a path leads down to the left, and follow it over a bridge, where it then becomes possible to walk back downstream along the river, with a fairly well defined path. A poorly defined side path on the left gives a view of the small first cascade of the Dulas Falls. Slightly further along the deteriorating side path are two more little waterfalls in a tiny gorge. From here, head back up to the fairly well defined path, then turn left and follow it to a road. Follow that to the left to reach Aberllefenni and the start of the walk.
