From Cardiff, take the A470 to Blaenau Ffestiniog. In Blaenau Ffestiniog, after passing a graveyard on the left, and a lorry yard on the right, turn down the next lane between houses on the right. For the walk, park on the lane. SH 7062 4502.
For viewing from the road, the waterfall can be seen ahead over the houses while passing the lorry yard, but to get a better view in winter, continue along the A470 until the road swings left and a lane continues ahead. Follow the lane ahead and park near the old mill after 200 yards (a large building on the right with a waterwheel). The waterfall can be seen from the first back alley to the right, 75 yards before the mill. SH 7083 4531.
Walk to the end of the lane, where there is a dirt track. Turn left and follow the dirt track through a gate into open access land (the gate does not open, but if needed, there is a stile two lanes further along the A470). It swings right and climbs up over the waterfall, which is visible from various points on the track (experienced walkers may wish to leave the track just before the track passes over a stone embankment, to get closer to the waterfall). Below the waterfall is the Pant-yr-ynn slate mill, a local attraction, from whose garden the waterfall can also be seen from a better angle.
The track then turns right and climbs past tips to the Llyn Dwr-oer reservoirs. Just before the reservoirs, it turns right, passing an incline between the reservoirs, then turning left to climb up to the Llyn y Manod lake, and the end of this route. Return the same way.
Experienced walkers may also walk up the right bank of the stream from beside the mill, to get to the waterfall.
