Directions

From Cardiff, take the A470 past Dolgellau until it turns right off itself, and the road ahead becomes the A487. Continue along the A487 to Penrhyndeudraeth. From Penrhyndeudraeth, turn right onto the A4085, signposted to Beddgelert. 0.7 miles after passing through the village of Garreg/Llanfrothen, the road turns sharp left at a mini-village, and runs perfectly straight between fields for 0.3 miles. At the end of the straight section, it turns sharp left again, where there is a track to the right. Park in a small lay-by on the left side of the road, just after the corner. SH 6151 4311.

Route

Walk down the track on the road corner, passing a few houses. When the track ends, and only a path continues, follow that instead, staying close to the river whenever there is a choice. The waterfalls start immediately. Follow the path until it climbs too far from the river to see anything useful, heading away from it through the gorse. A small path then heads down to the right to the top waterfall. On the far bank, you may be able to see some sheepfolds hiding in the bracken. While there are paths that continue from here, they are overgrown and too much effort considering that there are no more significant waterfalls in this river.
