From Cardiff, take the A470 to the roundabout in Blaenau Ffestiniog. From Blaenau Ffestiniog, take the first turnoff (left) onto the A496, signposted to Porthmadog. After leaving the town, the road passes turnings to Tanygrisiau, then begins to descend a significant hill. There is a large lay-by on the right at the top, and another on the right half way down. Park in the lower one. SH 6923 4408.
Walk downhill from the lay-by, to a track crossing a bridge on the right. The first waterfall lies directly under the bridge. For the best view, continue down the road a short distance to a private driveway, and view the waterfall from their gate. Then go back to the track and follow it over the bridge. When the track splits, continue ahead to reach Dol-wen. Pass the house on the track, then when the track turns right at the other end of the house, continue ahead along a path into the forestry - there are some yellow marker posts which may help in identifying the path.
The path reaches the river and follows it as it develops a few little cascades, before swinging away from the river and joining another path. Turn left. This crosses the river, where there is a viewpoint upstream of Rhaeadr Cymerau.
From there, the path leads up into a forest, where turning left on a track leads up to another parking area on the main road. It would be possible to walk up the road to create a loop, however, this is a very unpleasant road for walking, so it's best to return the same way.
