Rhosdylluan waterfall walk

Including Rhaeadr Llechweddfwyalchen.

Ability requirements (key)

Directions

From Cardiff, take the A470 to Dolgellau. From Dolgellau, take the A494 towards Bala. After just under 11 miles, the road crosses a river at Pont Rhyd-sarn, then arrives at a 5-way junction, with a small chapel and bus stop. Turn right and follow the lane past a couple of farms until it splits at the Dwrnudon farm. Take the left branch, which splits again with a farm access track on the right and a dirt track on the left. Take the dirt track, which has a parking area on the left just after its start. SH 8627 2824.

Route

The previous farm access track, leading to the Cwm onen farm, is a concessionary footpath. Follow it to the first corner where it turns to the left. Take the concessionary footpath that continues ahead, towards the valley. It then runs along above the valley, eventually reaching the open countryside. Fight through the gorse ahead to get to the stream, where the 4 metre Rhaeadr Llechweddfwyalchen waterfall is quite an anticlimax. A little way upstream the stream emerges from a tiny gorge at the Pen y Rhaeadr crags, but the waterfalls in that are no better.

If you wish to extend the walk, suggestions would include heading up to the left to the ridge above, and then following that all the way up to Aran Benllyn.
