Including Pistyll y Pandy.

Ability requirements (key)

Directions

From Cardiff, take the A470 to Llan Ffestiniog. From Llan Ffestiniog, immediately before passing under the railway bridge at the start of the village, turn right onto the B4391, signposted to Bala. After passing the deep Cwm Cynfal valley, turn left onto the B4407, signposted to Ysbyty Ifan. Follow it all the way over the plateau to reach farmland (there is a cattle grid at the edge of the farmland), then take the first proper left (a lane, not a farm track), and park on the tiny grassy patch at the start of it. SH 8391 4841. If you reach Ysbyty Ifan, you just went too far, though you may choose to park there instead if needed. If so, return to the junction to start the walk.

Route

The waterfall lies immediately below the road junction but must not be approached from above. Walk along the road towards Ysbyty Ifan. Go through the first gate on the right into a field (private land - seek permission as needed). Follow the fence back up close to the junction again to reach the end of the field, then turn left and follow the edge of the field down to the river. There is a weir in the river near the end of the fence, while the main waterfall lies upstream in a narrow cleft. Best viewed in winter, as leaves obscure the view in summer.
