Including Furnace Falls.
From Cardiff, take the A470 to the Llangurig roundabout. From Llangurig, take the first turnoff (left) at the roundabout, onto the A44 towards Aberystwyth. At the Gelli Angharad Lovesgrove roundabout (yes, really), take the second exit (right) onto the A4159, signposted to Machynlleth. At the end of the road, turn right on the A487 towards Machynlleth. At the village of Furnace, turn left into the parking area. SN 6848 9516.
Return to the main road from the parking area. The Dyfi Furnace (a furnace 250 years ago, converted into a saw mill 200 years ago) is the large stone building on the opposite side of the road. The waterfall can be seen from the road just to the left of it. However, that may be best left to the end of the walk, so turn right on the main road, heading away from the river, then almost immediately left onto a lane signposted to the Artists Valley. Follow it up some zigzags into a woodland. Shortly after a track doubles back hard on the right, take an obvious, signposted path on the left. Ignore side paths to the right, to arrive at a bridge. Cross it then curve left to arrive at a track near a cottage.
Turn left at the cottage track, soon joining a larger lane. Contine to the left. Follow it as it zigzags back down the other side of the valley, eventually arriving back at the main road. Turn left to reach the saw mill, and the Furnace Falls beside it. There is a path to the left before the bridge that can be used to get a better view, or the waterfall can be seen from the grounds of the saw mill. The parking area lies just over the bridge, on the right.
