From Cardiff, take the M4 to junction 49, the end of the M4. From there, take the A48 to Camarthen. From Camarthen, take the A40 towards Fishguard. Follow it for a very long way until just after the Narberth roundabout, then take the B4313 to the right. Once you have passed Rosebush, and the B4329 crossroads, take the third proper road that leads off on the right. It doubles back fairly sharply. Follow that road/lane to a junction with another lane. Continue ahead to drop into Pontfaen and Cwm Gwaun. After crossing the river, turn right at the junction. The walk starts at the first farm driveway on the right after passing the school (the farm may be seen on the far side of the valley). There is a small space to park just after the farm's driveway. SN 0368 3405.
Walk up the farm's driveway to the farm. Just before the farm, a gate on the left reaches a ford and footbridge over the Afon Cwmau. Follow the track on the other side as it swings right and climbs up the side of the valley. Stay with it as it passes a track sloping down to the right. Shortly afterwards, a signpost points down a deteriorating path to a bridge over the stream. From here, you will have to leave the path to see the waterfalls.
Be warned that the waterfalls have no path to them, and they can be quite risky to reach. The first cascade is just below the bridge. After that, a fence needs to be passed to remain on the right bank of the river. Stay on the right bank near the fenced field, and avoid the far more exposed left bank. A couple of little cascades follow, before the three main waterfalls are met in quick succession. The first of these may be viewed carefully from above. The second should be avoided. The third is a long cascade. There is a slope that can be used to descend to the base of this, where it is also possible to see the second waterfall above it.
Return back upstream to the bridge, and then cross the river there to regain the path, turning right at the junction on the other side of the bridge. At the next junction of the paths (near the end of the little Cwm-du valley), turn right, heading down through the forest towards the farm. Turn right at a junction at the bottom, to arrive back by the lower footbridge, and follow the driveway back to the start of the walk.
